Hotel Flora's rooms, through the eyes of those who tend them daily

My name is Carmen, and I look after the rooms at Hotel Flora.

Every day, for many years now, when the guests step out, I step in: I enter the room, and the first thing I do is open the windows. I let the air of Livigno come in, crisp, even in summer. The room breathes, and for a few seconds I breathe with it, taking in the scents of the mountains. Then I begin to care for the beds, the furniture, the spaces.

In all these years at Hotel Flora, I have come to understand something simple: a room is not made of comfortable mattresses and furnishings alone. It is made of light, of order, of small attentions you notice only when they are there. Nothing superfluous, nothing on display. Only what is needed, but done well.

It is the same lightness we bring to the kitchen at Hotel Flora, and to everything that marks the rhythm of the day: it is the Natural Detox that lives, too, in knowing how to prepare a room and make it welcoming with simplicity.

For those who seek the essential: Standard and Superior rooms

Some come to Livigno to live the mountains to the full. They rise early, spend the day on the trails or on a bike, and ask only one thing of their room: a welcoming place to return to in the evening. They are who I think of when I prepare the Standard Double with Balcony  intimate, full of light. As I tidy it, I notice that nothing is missing, because nothing is excessive. From the balcony you can see the mountains, and there is no finer view.

Those who wish to live the mountains intensely, but with a little more comfort, can choose the Superior, with its bathtub and a more spacious corner to unwind.

For those who want more space: Deluxe with balcony and Junior Suite

The Deluxe with Balcony is perfect for anyone who always needs a little more room to set down their things, or who arrives in the company of a four-legged friend, or who simply loves to move freely and feel at home straight away.

And for those after something even more comfortable and spacious, the Junior Suites are the most practical choice. I love them because they offer corners made for living one's own moments slowly. Pausing to read, savouring a herbal tea in peace, or setting aside a little time for mindfulness. The layout over two levels gives an even more particular feeling, almost that of having a small refuge all of one's own.

They are my favourite rooms: rooms made to be lived in, especially the one with the balcony.

For those travelling with family: the Family Suite

The Family Suite is the one I prepare with shared holidays in mind. Parents, children, perhaps a grandfather or grandmother too: when you travel together it is lovely to stay close, but it matters to have a little space of one's own as well. When I come in to set it right, I always picture the stories of the day and the laughter. After all, the finest holidays are the ones that become memories to share, and this suite over two levels seems made precisely to hold them.

All the magic of the mountains: the Suite with Terrace

And finally, there is the Suite with Terrace. It is the largest, with a terrace all of its own looking out over the valley, a corner with a stove (even in summer, you never know), and a whirlpool bath in the bathroom. I will admit it: before I close the door, I always pause a moment to look at it, thinking of whoever will enjoy that view at sunset. And then I understand why certain guests return to us year after year.

What you cannot see, but you can feel

The part of my work I love most is the small surprises.

I leave our guests a little something in their room when they arrive, and more during their stay, because everyone loves to be surprised. I always imagine their smiling, wondering faces, and it pleases me to think they feel cared for.

To tend a room is not only to make a bed, but to make sure the space is always welcoming, with a touch of personality that makes a stay truly unique, one that brings back the holiday at Hotel Flora with a smile, always.
